Interview with a Wiki Ninja!!! - Eldert Grootenboer

We're continuing our Monday series, "Interview with a Wiki Ninja!" Today's ninja is Eldert Grootenboer!

He is the co-author of the highly acclaimed eBook on BizTalk Server Extensibility and writer of a few awesome TechNet Wiki articles.

- Who are you, and what do you do?

I’m Eldert Grootenboer, 34 years old, and living in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. I work as a Microsoft Integrations Consultant at Motion10, focused on BizTalk and Azure. I have been in IT since 2006, and have been working with BizTalk since 2010.

Lately I have been working more and more with Azure, and it is really awesome to see how fast new technologies are coming, giving us more tools and techniques to solve our scenarios. Coming from a technical background, I find the IoT space very interesting, and think this will become one of the major new spaces for us integration developers. Azure is really a key-part in this, with technologies like Service Bus, Event Hubs, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, etc. In my spare time I write on my blog, create MSDN code samples, write on the Technet Wiki, and am active in the MSDN Forums. When the weather is good, I can be found enjoying nature in the Biesbosch on my boat.

- What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

I have written several articles for the wiki, and also contribute to others articles where I can, focusing on articles around BizTalk and Azure. The wiki is a great resource of knowledge, and I love that I can help out by giving back to the community which has helped me to get to where I am today.

- What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

Being a big fan of the BizTalk Deployment Framework, I also like to write about its less known functionalities. One of the first articles I wrote about this was Deploying web services with BizTalk Deployment Framework, and I received a lot of positive feedback about this article, which showed me how powerful the wiki is for the community. I am also very proud to have received a medal in the BizTalk Technical Guru contest for this article.

Another article I really enjoyed writing was BizTalk Server: Processing large files (streaming), as this is one of those scenarios I often have talked about with fellow community members, so it was nice to finally write a complete article about it. The article tackles two important mechanisms for performance tuning in BizTalk, which I hope will help others building better and more robust applications as well.

- Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

The names which immediately come to mind here are Sandro Pereira and Steef-Jan Wiggers, as they have given so many great articles to the community, and really have helped to make the BizTalk Technet Wiki become a great resource for all working with this great product.

- Do you have any tips for new Wiki contributors?

First of all, I want to say that if you have an idea for the Technet Wiki, don’t hesitate to put it up. Once you do, make sure to adhere to the standard which have been set, like including a ToC, correctly formatting your article, and applying the correct tags.

- Some Final words you want to say?

Thanks for this opportunity to come and talk about this great platform, the Wiki really is a great addition to our community, and I would like to thank everyone who has made it become a place for sharing our knowledge.
