TN Wiki Insights: the numbers. What is the impact when you publish on the #TNWIKI?
Did you ever wonder what impact you've got when publishing on the TNWIKI?
First a bit of a recap on the public numbers and the content.
The public Wiki statistics, you can consult yourself, are on the Wiki featured (recent) articles.
10,654 users have contributed 27,789 pages, 242,036 revisions, and 146,045 comments.
Also the Wiki tag cloud provides an overview of the (80) most popular tags. But what is behind it, in numbers?
The top-bottom winners on this list are:
It's a favorite ask of many Wiki Ninjas to get an insight on their articles. Unfortunately the current Wiki configuration itself does not offer a pageview on every single page. [We know it's feature request No 1. , for long time. Duly noted.]
To accommodate the insight, the Wiki platform team provided an overview of the last 1,5y (due to change in analysis tooling, earlier data is not available in current overview)
Just for clarity, this is Q4 2017, full 2018 and Q1 of 2019.
Here we go...
|2017||3 474 312|
|2018||14 382 102|
|2019||3 026 917|
|Grand Total||20 883 331|
While this (rather impressive) amount of visitors is the total volume of visitors in the Wiki, we also analyse the active users, when staying longer time on a page and clicking/editing content.
|2017||1 161 924|
|2018||4 542 080|
|Grand Total||6 665 919|
So you see that on average, 1/3 is actively involved in the Wiki.
Now, to return to the core question, what about the "Page views"?
|2017||5 335 767|
|2018||22 572 000|
|2019||5 310 593|
|Grand Total||33 218 360|
22,5 Million in 2018.
Pretty impressive, isn't it?
What about the "click through rate", so when people click the links in the Wiki pages they visit.
|Period||Valid Page Views|
|2017||1 698 311|
|2018||6 552 370|
|2019||1 371 283|
|Grand Total||9 621 964|
What are the most popular articles?
The top 20 is:
Where are the visitors coming from (meaning, the language/region of the source website)?
|en-us||15 787 583||31 403 123|
|pt-br||1 109 091||1 777 353|
|ru-ru||49 754||83 413|
|zh-cn||15 669||22 231|
|zh-tw||1 505||1 888|
|de-de||1 350||1 829|
Important to know
How do these numbers relate to your impact?
Well, unlike the forum, the Wiki is a long term investment with a growing return on investment... every view is adding more points, while a forums mainly reports points for replies (and low numbers of points for a very high number of views...)
|Your forum question has a confirmed answer and has been viewed 20,000 times.||+10|
|Your forum question has a confirmed answer and has been viewed 40,000 times.||+15|
On the Wiki side, the reward on creation of articles is low, but popular articles gradually bring in more points and reputation
|The article you authored reached one out of 10 possible page view milestones. The various milestones range between 500 and 1 million page views.||+5 to +2500|
|The article you edited reached one out of 10 possible page view milestones. The various milestones range between 500 and 1 million page views. You are eligible to receive a portion of an available set of points, depending upon your edit quantity and the milestone reached.||+1 to +2500|
Consider the forums as a 100 m steeple chase. Quick interaction, quick score but not long-lasting...
The TechNet Wiki is the marathon... quite some preparation, lots of work but a long term investment that is rewarding.
And try to run the marathon in 100 m sprints...
The good news, unlike sports: at the TNWIKI and the forums, you can perfectly combine both to maximize your community impact.
So, welcome to the TN Wiki!
