Backup.Initialize Backup.Initialize Backup.Initialize Property

Definition

Gets or sets a Boolean property value that determines whether the devices associated with a backup operation are initialized as part of the backup operation.

public:
 property bool Initialize { bool get(); void set(bool value); };
public bool Initialize { get; set; }
Public Property Initialize As Boolean
Property Value

A Boolean value that specifies whether the backup devices will be initialized.

If True, the backup specified becomes the first backup set on the media, overwriting any existing backup sets on the media. The backup media is not overwritten if either of the following conditions is met:

  • All backup sets on the media have not yet expired.

  • The optionally specified backup set name does not match the name on the backup media. Specify the backup set name with the BackupSetName property.

    If False (default), the backup specified creates a new backup set appended as the last backup set on the medium.

Examples

VB

Dim srv As Server
srv = New Server

Dim db As Database
db = srv.Databases("AdventureWorks2012")
Dim bk As New Backup
bk.Action = BackupActionType.Database
bk.Database = "AdventureWorks2012"
bk.Initialize = true

$db = New-Object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Database
$db = $srv.Databases.Item("AdventureWorks2012")
$bk = new-object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Backup
$bk.Action = [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.BackupActionType]::Database
$bk.Database = "AdventureWorks2012"
