Main account categories (form)

Click General ledger > Setup > Chart of accounts > Main account categories.

Use this form to create or update main account categories. You can use main account categories, which are attributes, to classify main accounts.

Main account categories are used for key performance indicators (KPIs) and calculated measures for analysis cubes. Based on the main account categories that are assigned to the main accounts, the KPIs and calculated measures provide summarized views of your data. For more information, see Main account categories and analysis cubes.

For example, suppose you want to view information for current assets, and the following asset type accounts are defined for your legal entity:

  • 10000    Cash

  • 11000    Accounts receivable

  • 12000    Inventory

  • 13000    Long-term investments

  • 14000    Property, plant, and equipment

You consider cash, accounts receivable, and inventory to be current assets, so you want the sum of accounts 10000, 11000, and 12000. You use main account categories to define an account range from 10000 to 12000, so you can view current asset information.

Link main accounts

Open the Link main accounts - account category: %1 form, where you can assign one or more main accounts to the main account category.


This button is not available for main account categories that have the Closed check box selected.




Reference ID

A system-generated reference ID value for the main account category. User-defined main account categories will have reference ID values greater than or equal to 1001.

Main account category

Enter a unique name for the main account category.


Enter a description for the main account category.

Main account type

Select the main account type for the main account category:

  • Profit and loss

  • Revenue

  • Expense

  • Balance sheet

  • Asset

  • Liability

  • Equity

Select this check box to close the main account category and prevent it from being used. You cannot delete a main account that has been used.

You cannot link the main account category to main accounts if this check box is selected.
