How to use this service description

The Defender for Identity US Government Service Description is designed to serve as an overview of the service offerings in the GCC, GCC High, and Department of Defense (DoD) environments and will cover feature variations from the commercial offering. For more information on Defender for Identity for GCC customers, see the description of EMS for US Microsoft 365 GCC customers.

Getting started with Defender for Identity for US Government offerings

The Defender for Identity offerings for GCC, GCC High, and DoD customers are built on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud and are designed to inter-operate with Microsoft 365 GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments. Full details on the service and how to use it can be found in the Defender for Identity public documentation. The public documentation should be used as a starting point for deploying and operating the service and the following Service Description details and changes from functionality or features in the GCC, GCC High, or DoD environments.

To get started, utilize the Defender for Identity quickstart guides, including the Create your Defender for Identity instance page for access to the Defender for Identity GCC, GCC High, or DoD portals, and ensure you have connectivity to the relevant Defender for Identity cloud service endpoints to Install the Defender for Identity sensor. Follow the additional steps in the How-to guides for other detailed instructions.

Feature variations in Defender for Identity US Government offerings

Unless otherwise specified, new feature releases, including preview features, documented in What's new with Defender for Identity, will be available in GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments within three weeks of release in the Defender for Identity commercial environment. Preview features may not be supported in the GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments. Only specific feature variances for generally available features from the commercial offering are noted below.

Integrations

The following integrations aren't available:

  • Integration with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • VPN integration, offering the ability to collect accounting information from VPN solutions

In addition, for GCC, the integration with Microsoft Cloud App Security is temporarily not available.
