Microsoft Teams collaboration and chat

Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability Technical Summit May 2024

Enable or disable Microsoft Teams chat in Microsoft Sustainability Manager (preview)

Note

The Microsoft Teams collaboration and chat feature was originally developed for Dynamics 365. Although Microsoft Sustainability Manager isn't a Dynamics 365 app, you will see references to Dynamics 365 in the user experience and documentation as the Teams collaboration and chat feature evolves.

  1. In Microsoft Sustainability Manager, select Change area in the lower-left corner, and then select Settings.

  2. Under App settings, select Teams chat.

  3. Turn on the Linking of Dynamics 365 records to Microsoft Teams channels option to enable the Basic Collaboration Experience.

  4. Turn on the Turn on Enhanced Microsoft Teams Integration option to enable the Enhanced Collaboration Experience. To turn on this option, you must have tenant admin permissions. You can set up a connection with any Teams collaboration channel in an app.

  5. In the consent dialog box, select Accept.

    Important

When you give consent on behalf of your organization, the app gets full access to all Teams groups and associated content that the users have access to. Although the app has full access, it doesn't read or write to any of that data. It just reads the teams/channels list or creates teams/channels for collaboration.

    Note

If you don't select Accept, any user who tries to pin an entity record or view to Teams and shares the tab with another user will receive the following error message: "The admin has not consented to use user sync feature, you can add them manually." If you receive this error message, see Error when you pin a record or view of any app to a team channel.

  6. Save your changes. You should now see the Collaborate button when you open a record.

  7. Set the Turn on Confidential Labels option to Yes. Users in your organization might collaborate with users both inside and outside the organization. Therefore, content no longer stays behind a firewall but can roam everywhere: across devices, apps, and services. When content roams, you want it to do so in a secure, protected way that meets your organization's business and compliance policies. For more information, see Sensitivity labels for Microsoft Teams. Teams integration lets you create teams that use sensitivity labels, and make the teams private so that only the owner of each team can add other members. To learn how to use sensitivity labels, see Enhanced Collaboration Experience with Microsoft Teams.

  8. Select Save.

Teams chats inside Dynamics 365 (preview)

Important

This topic is pre-release documentation and is subject to change. A preview is a feature that isn't complete, but that is made available to you before general availability so that you can evaluate the preview and provide feedback to Microsoft. Previews might have restricted functionality, and they might use reduced or different privacy, security, or compliance commitments compared to a commercial version. Therefore, previews aren't intended for production use. In other words, they aren't intended for "live" customer data, personal data, or other data that is subject to heightened compliance requirements. You use such data at your sole risk, and it's your sole responsibility to instruct your users not to include personal or sensitive information when they use previews, as appropriate. Microsoft doesn't provide support for previews, and Technical Support won't be able to help you with issues or questions. This preview, and any one-off support that Microsoft might choose to provide, are provided "as is," "with all faults," "as available," and without warranty.

Teams settings take effect across all apps that are created by using Power Apps. Therefore, regardless of whether you enable the Teams collaboration and chat feature from Microsoft Sustainability Manager or a custom app, it will be enabled for all the supported apps.

Access settings in Microsoft Sustainability Manager

  1. Turn on the Turn on Microsoft Teams chats inside Dynamics 365 (preview) option.

    Important

You must be a global administrator (tenant administrator) to provide the initial consent. Application administrators can then enable the preview for other instances.

  2. To specify that the chat title should be used as the record title by default, turn on the Use record title as the default chat name for linked chats option. Users can change the title if they want.

  3. Save your changes.

The preview is now enabled for all apps that are created by using Power Apps. You can open a record and verify that you're able to view the chats and channels that are related to that record.

For more information, see Open Teams chats and channels related to a record.
