Word uses the relationship type defined in Alternative Format Import Part ("[ISO/IEC-29500-1] §11.3.1"): http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships/aFChunk.

b.   The standard specifies that applications can support any set of content types.
