The Policy Description Store has the following structure:

  • Policy Description Store for ADMX files: The Policy Description Store for ADMX files is a file system directory given by the location "\\<dns domain name>\sysvol\<dns domain name>\Policies\policydefinitions\" on the Group Policy server. Underneath this directory is a set of files with names that end in .admx. These are files that MUST be in the ADMX-Based Policy Description Message format.

  • Policy Description Storage for ADM files: The Policy Description Store for ADM files is a file system directory given by the location "<gpo path>\adm" on the Group Policy server. Underneath this directory is a set of files with names that end in .adm. These are files that MUST be in the ADM-Based Policy Description Message format.

This state describes a subset of the settings modeled in the User Policy Setting State and the Computer Policy Setting State of this GPO.
