Changes coming to Partner Center APIs

Categories

  • Date: 2020-07-28

Impacted audience

Direct Bill partners and Indirect Providers participating in the CSP program who are using the Partner Center APIs.

Summary

The Partner Center team has evaluated the exposed Partner Center APIs. We see that some of these APIs are stale and are no longer supported. They will be retired by August 31, 2020.

Details

The CSP Partner Center team has identified a few APIs we are scheduling to retire by the end of August 31, 2020. These APIs represent interfaces that were designed years ago, many of them no longer functional. The team is in the process of removing references to these end points in the next SDK release in last calendar quarter of 2020. Below are the APIs to be decommissioned. Partners should ensure they do not reference these URIs going forward.

Partner Service Requests - These endpoints enabled a partner to get support topic strings and then programmatically submit partner service requests. Over time this API became unstable and not supported. Partners are directed to the partner center user interface to create partner support tickets. The user experience offers partners additional information while creating support cases such as recommended steps and documents for the area they are having problems with. The partner center team has also enhanced the partner ticket creation experience by customizing the service request forms to capture information specific to the problem area. The information gathered by the online forms helps support engineers more quickly and accurately resolve your issues. These URIs should not be referenced or relied on and will be decommissioned by the end of August 2020. Realize these changes only impact the get support topics and create partner service request methods, all other support-related APIs should continue to function as expected.

  • {base-URL}/v1/servicerequests/supporttopics
  • {base-URL}/v1/servicerequests/{agent-locale}

Office Service incidents - These endpoints were designed to enable a partner to get an aggregate view of service incidents/outages across all their partner's services. However, the data these endpoints return has become stale and not useful. We will be decommissioning these endpoints by the end of July. Going forward the partner center team will be re-evaluating the 'all customers' service incident and health scenarios and looking for opportunity to add value in this area. References to these URIs should be removed.

  • {base-URL}/v1/serviceincidents/office/count
  • {base-URL}/v1/serviceincidents/office

Partners can use the Office 365 Service Communications API to get up-to-date status on customer services.

TopProduct - This endpoint was created as a proof of concept never intended for general availability. It was designed to someday enable partners to manage the top offers that would render in the Partner Center catalog. This API, however, was never fully developed and completed and will be disabled by July 31, 2020. Partners should remove any references to it.

  • {base-URL}/v1/preferences/catalog/products

Next Steps

  • Partners should ensure their solutions no longer reference the above APIs.
  • Cloud Solution Provider partners can visit the Partner Center SDK and API Yammer community to ask questions if further clarifications are needed.

SDK Release on .NET Standard (v1.16.1-preview)

Categories

  • Date: 2020-07-21
  • Capabilities

Impacted audience

Direct Bill partners and Indirect Providers participating in the CSP program who are using the Partner Center .NET SDK.

Summary

As of July 21, 2020, Partners can start downloading the preview version of .NET Standard SDK Microsoft Partner Center .NET SDK v1.16.1-preview, along with updated public Partner Center SDK GitHub samples.

Details

Direct Bill partners and Indirect Providers participating in the CSP program are eligible to download the latest preview version of .NET standard SDK. We will be migrating the Microsoft Partner Center SDK from .NET Framework to .NET Standard 2.0 platform. These changes will make the SDK compatible with the existing application using the .NET Framework 4.6.1 and above. The .NET Standard will support .NET Core 2.0 and above.

There has been a huge demand from partners requesting SDK in .NET Standard. The current version of SDK forces partners to use applications written in ASP.NET Framework, which is slow and costly compare to .NET core applications. Hence the migration to .NET standard can help address the issues with performance or compatibility with .NET Core.

Highlights

  • No further releases from Microsoft for .NET Framework 4.8 as it is the last in its line.
  • Limits future development as most of libraries will release for .NET Core or .NET standard, which might not support current framework version.
  • .NET Core is favorable to use with containers due to its lightweight nature.
  • High-performance server runtime for Windows Server and Linux makes .NET Core a top performing web framework.

Next Steps

  • Download the latest version of the .NET SDK v1.16.1-preview
  • Version: .NET SDK v1.16.1-preview
  • Sample Code: Sample Code
  • Preview Available On: 7/21/2020
  • GA: Three weeks from preview (to give enough time for partners to migrate)
  • There are no new API changes as part of the current release

CSP Indirect Resellers and qualified CSP Indirect Providers

Details

At Microsoft, we’re committed to supporting every organization with their digital transformation journey. We do this by investing not just in technology, but also by examining the end-to-end customer and partner journey, from acquiring our technology to their support experience. Through this work, we’ve identified an opportunity to transform ourselves—by investing in our commerce platform. We’re also simplifying licensing programs while we evolve the new commerce experience so that we can enhance how we provide more opportunities to our partners.

As we improve our commerce capabilities to provide customers and partners with a better buying experience, we’re expanding the offer portfolio to include the availability of perpetual software licenses within the Cloud Solution Provider program (CSP). The addition of software licenses within CSP allows participating partners to focus on offering diverse solutions and managed services to their customers. It also empowers customers’ transition to the cloud and gives partners the flexibility needed for hybrid cloud environments.

Beginning July 1, we are ramping up this capability through a set of qualified indirect providers and their indirect resellers who will be able to transact licenses for on-premises software with customers in the CSP program. Qualified partners are managed by Microsoft and must be both active CSP indirect providers and Microsoft Authorized Distributors for the Open License program operating in a geography currently supported for the sale of software within CSP. Starting in January 2021, Microsoft will scale this capability further and enable all CSP direct bill partners, indirect providers, and indirect resellers to sell software licenses within the CSP program.
