Getting paid in the commercial marketplace

This article has important information about receiving payment for your offers, add-ons, and advertising earnings. It summarizes payout policy, steps required before getting paid, and payout statement overview.

Commercial marketplace payout policies and agreements

Getting paid requires you to adhere to the agreements and payout policy.

  • Microsoft Azure Marketplace Publisher Agreement: Before getting paid, you must accept this publisher agreement. This agreement explains the relationship between you and Microsoft as it pertains to seller offers in the commercial marketplace, including the store fee that Microsoft charges for every sale made.
  • Payout policy shows the payout payment policies including payment schedule and payment methods. Policy also explains the process for customer non-payments.
  • Tax details explains the tax consideration for price selection and tax responsibility under the Microsoft Publisher Agreement.
  • Store fees are officially defined in the Publisher Agreement. Store fee is applied to all offer sales collected by the commercial marketplace, including add-ons.
  • Payments are made on a monthly basis (provided the payment threshold has been met). We typically sends any payment due in a given month by the 15th day of that month. Payments generally take 3 to 10 additional business days to reach your payout account. For details, see Payment thresholds, methods, and time frames.

Prerequisite steps before getting paid

Before getting paid the first time, you must set up your payout account and complete the necessary bank and tax forms. In bank and tax forms, you will provide your preferred payment methods and the tax forms for withholding tax. Bank and tax forms are required before we can pay you. Payout hold status

By default, we'll send payments on a monthly basis as described above. However, you have the option to put your payouts for a program on hold, and Microsoft will not release your payments to your account. If you choose to put your payouts on hold, we'll continue to record any earnings in the Payouts page. However, we won't send any payments to your account until you remove the hold.

To place your payments on hold, go to Account settings. Under Payout and tax, in the Payout and tax profile assignment section, locate the program for which you would like payments held. Select the Hold my Payment check box to hold payments for this program. You can change your payout hold status at any time, but your decision will affect the next monthly payout. For example, if you want to hold April's payout, make sure to set your payout hold status to On before the end of March.

Once you have set your payout hold status to On, all payouts for this program will be on hold until you clear the check box to Off. When you do so, you'll be included during the next monthly payout cycle (provided the payment threshold has been met). If you've had your payouts on hold, but would like to have a payout generated in June, then clear the check box to Off before the end of May.

Note

Your Payout hold status applies to each program individually (Microsoft Store, advertising, Azure Marketplace, and so on). If you wish to hold payments for all your programs, hold payment on each program individually.

Payout statements

The payout statement shows your earnings from the sales from your offers and add-ons in the transaction history. You can also view payment details and download reports in tsv or csv format.
