Protect sensitive business data to help adhere to compliance rules for data security.
Object-level security (OLS) restricts access to sensitive tables and columns. Sensitive data includes personally identifiable information (PII). In addition to the data in the secured tables/columns, the metadata is also secured to help prevent a malicious user from discovering that such an object exists. Authoring OLS rules in the Power BI dataset can be done with tools that use the XMLA endpoint.
OLS is a feature inherited from Azure Analysis Services and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) providing backwards compatibility for models migrated to Power BI.
