SourceSafe Options Dialog Box, Time Zone Tab (Administrator)

Identifies a single time zone for use in all date/time stamp operations for a database. If you work on a geographically distributed team, ensure that all team members are equipped with the same client version of Visual SourceSafe, as different versions handle time zones in different ways.

Warning

To avoid unintended data loss, do not change the time zone for a Visual SourceSafe database after it has been established and is being used.

Dialog Box Access

In Visual SourceSafe Administrator, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Time Zone.

  • Time zone for project and file history logging
Specifies the time zone of the computer on which the Visual SourceSafe database resides.

Remarks

Regardless of the time zone that you select in this dialog box, all date/time stamps that database users see are displayed in client time. As an example, suppose that you work in Los Angeles, have a database located in Honolulu, and have set the time zone to (GMT-10:00) Hawaii. When you check out a file at 9:15 AM local time (Pacific GMT-08:00), Visual SourceSafe records the time as 11:15 AM in the database. When you view the history for the file, Visual SourceSafe converts the database time to your local time and displays it as 9:15 AM. However, the checkout time that your teammates in Honolulu see is 11:15 AM.
