How to: Set Options for Comparing Database Data

You can configure options to specify more exactly what is considered a difference between the data that is contained in databases. The options also control the update script that is generated if you synchronize the data in the databases. You can set global options that affect the default comparison options for all new sessions of Data Compare. The options will affect existing sessions of Data Compare when you click Refresh.

To set options for comparing database data

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Expand the Database Tools node, and then click the Data Compare node.

  3. Configure your comparison options.

For information about specific settings, see Options (Database Tools/Data Compare).

  4. Click OK to commit your changes or click Cancel to discard the changes.

After you commit your changes, any new sessions of Data Compare use the new settings. Existing sessions keep the settings that were in effect when the session was created until you click Refresh or change your connection.
