Using the AppFabric Management User Interface

AppFabric provides you with a user interface in the IIS Manager that is specifically designed for managing applications based on WCF and WF services. This section describes how to use that user interface.

The AppFabric Management UI leverages IIS Manager functionality and adds features of its own. The applications and services that you are hosting within AppFabric are listed in the standard IIS Manager Connections pane. AppFabric adds application management icons to the IIS Manager Features View, and displays enumerations and property pages within that view. AppFabric adds action commands within the Actions pane that you can execute on items selected in the Connections pane or Features View. Many of these action commands display AppFabric dialog boxes such as the configuration dialog box, which makes it easier and more efficient to set the configuration of applications and services. AppFabric also provides a dashboard that gives you monitoring data and capabilities, and enables you to enumerate a series of service-related items, so that you know in detail what is going on in your system. And it gives you the ability to control persisted workflow service instances and applications.

You can use the IIS Manager to manage WCF- and WF-based services and applications either locally or remotely. For more information about how to set up remote management using the IIS Manager, see Managing a Remote Server Using IIS Manager.
