Managing a Remote Server Using IIS Manager

With the help of IIS Manager remoting capabilities, the AppFabric extensions for IIS Manager enable you to manage WCF or WF services hosted on a remote computer. To set up and use Windows PowerShell remoting, you must do the following:

  • An IIS administrator must integrate with the remoting infrastructure of IIS Manager by enabling the WMSVC service to allow remote management of the hosted sites or applications.

  • An IIS administrator can configure which users can connect to which site or application. The IIS administrator can also configure which modules are exposed at each of these scopes.

  • When working remotely through IIS Manager, you must always connect at a specific scope (server, site, or application). To do so, click the File menu in IIS Manager, and then select Connect to a Server, Connect to a Site, or Connect to an Application.

Note

If you connect to a site remotely, the AppFabric extensions for IIS Manager enable you to view and control instances and events related to applications under the site.

Note

You cannot use SQL auditing when using IIS Manager to manage a site, application, virtual directory, or service deployed on a remote IIS server.

Note

When you connect to IIS Manager from a remote client computer, the help button will not be operational, because the AppFabric help file will not be downloaded onto the client computer.
