Configuring the Staging Server
This section provides instructions about how to configure the staging server. Use this server to synchronize multiple servers in a Web farm, or to copy Web site content and data between separate environments. This server is typically deployed in the staging tier of the data/staging domain.

Commerce Server Staging is available only with Commerce Server 2009 Enterprise Edition.

Perform these tasks to configure the staging server:
Perform pre-installation steps:
Install all prerequisite software. For more information, see What Are the Software Deployment Requirements?
Enable Internet Information Services (IIS). For more information, see How to Enable IIS on the Business Management Server.
Enable Active Server Pages (ASP). To configure the Commerce Server Staging Reporting Service virtual directory correctly, you must enable ASP prior to running the Commerce Server Configuration Wizard. For more information, see How to Enable Active Server Pages (ASP).
Configure the network adapters. For more information, see How to Configure the Network Adapter on the Business Management Server.
Join the staging server to the domain. For more information, see the Windows Server 2003 Help or Windows Server 2008.
Install the Microsoft .NET Framework. For more information, see How to Install Microsoft .NET Framework on the Business Management Server.
Install Commerce Server 2009. For more information, see How to Install Commerce Server on the Business Management Server. Install the following:

Staging
Configure Commerce Server on the staging server. The staging server should point to the staging server database. For more information, see How to Configure Commerce Server on the Business Management Server.
Unpack the Commerce Server site onto the staging server. For more information, see How to Unpack a Site on the Staging Server.
Set access permissions to help secure files and folders. For more information, see Setting File and Folder Access Permissions.
Create application pools and make assignments to the IIS Worker Process group. For more information, see Working with Application Pools and Web Applications.
Verify the installation of the Web services. For more information, see How to Verify the Installation of the Web Services.
Authorize users and groups to access the Web services. For more information, see Authorizing Users and Groups to Access Web Services.
Configure the keys for the Profiles Web service. For more information, see How to Configure Encryption Keys for Profiles System Data.
Note
You must grant service accounts access to the staging server databases for the Web services to be functional. This step is performed on the staging server that is running SQL Server. For more information, see Granting Access to the Commerce Server Databases.
