Authentication is the process by which user credentials are validated. When users log on to your site, their user credentials are compared against an authorized list, and if Commerce Server detects a match, access is granted to your Web site.
User credentials can be the combination of a user name and password, a certificate, or an authentication ticket contained by a cookie or encoded in the URL. After users log off a site, the authentication expires, therefore, they must re-authenticate when they return to your site.
Commerce Server includes the CS Authentication resource, which you use to determine how tickets are implemented on your site. You configure the properties in the CS Authentication resource in Commerce Server Manager.
