Step 5. Logging in Using the New User Account

Perform the following steps to verify that you can log in with the new user account you just created.

  1. Use your browser to navigate to http://<servername>/retail2002/.

    • Type the name of the server. Do not type localhost.

  2. On the International Retail Site, click Sign In.

    The Login.aspx page opens.

  3. On the Login.aspx page, type, do the following:

    Use this To do this
    User name Type jdoe.

    • Both the user name and password are case-sensitive.
    Password Type password.

  4. Click Login.

    The International Retail Site authenticates your login information. After you are authenticated, the Default.aspx page is displayed and you should see the message "Welcome, John Doe, please make yourself at home."

    If you are not authenticated, the following error message is displayed:

    "The username and/or password is incorrect or the account is invalid."

If you receive this error message, review the steps in To create a new user account. After you are authenticated, continue to the next step, Shopping the Adventure Works Catalog.
