Step 1: Creating category definitions
The category definitions that you create in this step are used to organize products into categories on your Web site. In this step you will create two categories: Pens and Pencils. Later in Lab 3, you will add products to these categories.
To create the Pens category definition
In Business Desk, expand the Catalogs module, and then click Catalog Definition Designer.
The Catalog Definition Designer: Category Definitions screen appears.
Click New.
In the Category Definition: New screen, in the Category Definition Properties section, in the Name text box, type Pens.
In the Category Properties section, in the Available properties list, select Description and then click Add.
The Description property is moved to the Assigned properties list.
To save the category definition and create a new category definition, click on the toolbar.
To create the Pencils category definition
In the Category Definition: New screen, in the Category Definition Properties section, in the Name text box, type Pencils.
In the Category Properties section, in the Available properties list, select Description and click Add.
The Description property is moved to the Assigned properties list.
To save the category definition and create a new category definition, click on the toolbar.
To create the Printers category definition
In the Category Definition: New screen, in the Category Definition Properties section, in the Name text box, type Printers.
In the Category Properties section, in the Available properties list, select Description and click Add.
The Description property is moved to the Assigned properties list.
To save the Printers category definition and return to the Catalog Definition Designer: Category Definitions screen, click on the toolbar.
The Catalog Definition Designer: Category Definitions screen appears. Notice that the three categories you created: Pens, Pencils, and Printers appear in the Name list box on this screen.
Note
- Definition names must be unique across all category and product definitions. In this step, you used the plural form of the name Pen and Pencil (Pens and Pencils), because in Step 2: Creating the Pencil product definition and Step 3: Creating the Pen product definition, you will use the names Pencil and Pen as product definitions.
You have created the Pens and Pencils category definitions. Later, in Lab 3, you will add products to your catalogs using the category definitions that you have created in this step. Proceed to Step 2: Creating the Pencil product definition.
