Adding a Catalog Multilingual Property Definition

You can create properties in your catalog that support multiple languages. For example, you can specify that the Description property is multilingual text, and then specify that Description can support English, German, Japanese, and French. By creating multilingual properties, you can create catalogs that support multiple languages.

You can create the following types of multilingual properties:

  • Multilingual text
  • Multilingual long text
  • Multilingual file name. The name of a file that will be unique for each language. For example, you might have a different image file for a product for each language, especially if the image contains text. Free-text searchable
  • Multilingual multiple choice

Multilingual properties do not support the free-text searchable option.

  • If you select the Assign to all product definitions option, any product definitions you create will automatically inherit this property. If you import an XML catalog in which this property has been set, it will affect all future product definitions you create.
  • A property name cannot start with a number.
  • Use the Is required box to specify whether a value for the property will be required. When a property is required, a Required appears next to it.

To add a multilingual property definition to the catalog definition

  1. In Catalogs, click Catalog Definition Designer.

  2. In the Catalog Definition Designer: Category Definitions screen, click View on the toolbar, and then select Property Definitions from the drop-down list.

  3. In the Catalog Definition Designer: PropertyDefinitions screen, click New on the toolbar, and then select the multilingual property type that you want to use to create a new property definition.
