Back Up Existing Data
When you upgrade from an earlier version of Microsoft Commerce Server, make sure that you back up your Commerce Server databases before you install Commerce Server 2009 R2.
You should back up all your data including SQL Server databases, site code, site resources, global resources, and configuration settings before migrating to Commerce Server 2009 R2.
For detailed instructions on backing up your databases, see SQL Server documentation:
For SQL Server 2005, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=166189.
For SQL Server 2008, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=178539.
In addition, if you are using Data Warehouse, use SQL Server Analysis Manager to make a backup of the <site>_dw analysis database and copy it to an alternate location. For more information, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=68696.
You can use the Commerce Server Site Packager tool to save your Web sites as package (Pup) files, and unpack them on your Commerce Server 2009 R2 platform. See your Commerce Server documentation for detailed instructions on packaging a site:
