Set Up the Commerce Server 2009 R2 Environment

Before you upgrade, ensure that your environment meets all system requirements, as described Hardware and Software Requirements.

If you are migrating from Microsoft Commerce Server 2000, Commerce Server 2002, or Commerce Server 2007, you are likely installing Commerce Server 2009 R2 on a new system, as platform requirements are significantly different from earlier versions of Commerce Server. However, these steps include links to instructions on upgrading your software environment, but it is assumed that your hardware platform meets system requirements.

Note

If you are installing Commerce Server 2009 R2 on the same system as your previous version of Commerce Server, you must uninstall the earlier version of Commerce Server before you can install Commerce Server 2009 R2.

  1. Upgrade your operating system.

    If your current operating system is Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003, you must upgrade to Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2008 R2. For information about how to upgrade to Windows Server 2008, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=115171.

  2. Install or upgrade your SQL Server software.

    If you are using SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005, you must upgrade to SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 and Cumulative Update 2, or SQL Server 2008 R2. For information on how to upgrade to SQL Server 2008, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=166232.

  3. Install or upgrade your Visual Studio software.

    If you are using Visual Studio 2005 and want to develop Web applications for Commerce Server 2009 R2, you must upgrade to Visual Studio 2008 with Service Pack 1 or Visual Studio 2010. For more information, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=166235

  4. (Optional) Install or upgrade your Microsoft SharePoint software.

    If you want to develop SharePoint Web applications for Commerce Server 2009 R2, you must install SharePoint 2010 software.

    If you were using Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), you must upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2010. For more information, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=196545.

    If you were using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), you must upgrade to SharePoint Server 2010. For more information, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=196538.

  5. (Optional) Upgrade your BizTalk Server software.

    If you are using BizTalk Server 2006, you must upgrade to BizTalk Server 2009 if you want to use the Commerce Server Adapters for Microsoft BizTalk Server. For more information, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=166236.

  6. Install Commerce Server 2009 R2.

    You can install Commerce Server 2009 R2 using the Setup wizard or using the command line, in silent mode. For more information, see Installing Commerce Server 2009 R2.

  7. Configure Commerce Server 2009 R2.

    You can configure Commerce Server 2009 R2 using the Configuration Wizard or using the command line, in silent mode. For more information, see Configuring Commerce Server 2009 R2.
