How to: Set Default Home and Search PagesĀ 

You can customize home page and search page settings for Microsoft Document Explorer, and customize settings for Internet Explorer.

Security noteSecurity Note

When you open a Web page in Microsoft Document Explorer, an instance of the page runs in a process started by a trusted user, yourself. Opening Web files or components can execute code on your local machine. For more information, see Code Access Security.

Customizing the Home and Search pages

To customize Microsoft Document Explorer home page and search page

  1. On the Tools menu, choose Options.

  2. In the Options dialog box, choose Web Browser.

  3. Under Home Page, unselect Use default and then enter the address of the page you want to use as a home page. The page you specify becomes the default startup page.

  4. Under Search Page, unselect Use default and then enter the address of the search engine Web site you want to use. This search engine Web site can differ from your Internet Explorer search page.

    You can load this page from the View menu by choosing Web Browser and then Search.

Customizing

In addition to modifying home page and search page settings for Microsoft Document Explorer, you can also customize settings for the Internet Explorer browser.

Note

When you change the Internet Properties for Internet Explorer, even if you do not have Document Explorer open, the Web browsing settings for Document Explorer are changed as well.

To customize Internet Explorer settings

  1. On the Tools menu, choose Options.

  2. In the Options dialog box, choose the Web Browser category.

  3. Click Internet Explorer Options.

    The following table shows Internet Explorer tabs and the associated options that you can customize.

    Security level settings for different sites

    Content, certification, and user settings

    Connections

    LAN and internet connections settings

    Programs

    Programs to use for Internet services (e-mail, HTML editing, calendar)
