Status of the Import Users in Progress

Applies to: Office 365 for professionals and small businesses, Office 365 for enterprises, Live@edu

After you start the import process, the Import in Progress status window is displayed on the Mailboxes tab for the duration of the import process. This window contains information about the current import process and lets you view the progress of the import process while it's happening and stop the import process if necessary. It shows the name of the CSV file being processed, the number of new mailbox requests, which corresponds to the number of rows in the CSV file, the number of new mailboxes that have been created, and the number of mailboxes that have failed.

Note   When an import is in progress, Import Users Import Users isn't displayed because you can't start a new import process until the current one is finished.

How long does it take to import users?

The load on the computers running Microsoft Exchange in the datacenter, network traffic, and other factors can affect how long it takes to import new users. Also, there may be a short delay before the import process actually starts because the server process running on Microsoft Exchange may be busy processing import user requests for other organizations.

Stop the import in progress

You can stop the import by clicking Stop in the Import in Progress window. If you click Stop, you will be prompted to confirm that you want to stop importing users and delete the import process.

What happens when you stop an import?

  • Processing of any user account that is actively being created is completed before the import process is stopped, and no more new user accounts are created.
  • The import process is deleted.
  • New user accounts that have been created aren't affected.
  • A status e-mail message is sent to the administrator who started the import process. The message contains information about the number of rows in the CSV file that were processed and the number of new user accounts created before the import was stopped.

Refresh the Import in Progress window

To refresh the Import in Progress window while an import is in progress or to view newly created mailboxes in the Mailboxes list, click Refresh Refresh in the Import in Progress window.

If you refresh the Import in Progress window or your Web browser and the Import in Progress window is no longer displayed, the import process is finished and Import Users Import Users is displayed again. At this point, you can import a new batch of users.
