Map data starting with the Data Mapping Wizard

  1. On the Data menu, click Data Mapping Wizard.

    - or -

    On the Standard toolbar, click Data Mapping Wizard  Data Mapping Wizard button.

  2. On the Map Type page of the wizard, click the map type that you want to use to display data and then click Next.

  3. On the Data Set page of the wizard, choose the data that you want to map:

    To map demographic data

    1. Click Add demographics to the map to use demographic data included in MapPoint.
    2. Select the demographic data set.
    3. Click Next.

    Note  You cannot map demographic data to a Pushpin Map.

    To map by importing or linking your source data

    1. Click Import data to map it to import data from an external data source without establishing a link to that data.
    2. Click Next.
    3. Select the source file that contains the data you want to import or link to and click Open.
    4. Depending on your data source, you may have to choose specific data, or choose a separator character.
    5. Choose the Country/Region to which your data applies, and specify the data type for each column in your data.
    6. If you are linking to your data, select the column that will be used as the primary key.
    7. Click Finish to exit from the Import or Link Data Wizard and to return to the Data Mapping Wizard.
    8. If you had any records that could not be matched to the map, match unmatched records.

    To edit an existing data map

    1. To modify a mapped data set, click Edit an existing data map.
    2. Select the data set that you want to modify.
    3. Click Next.
  4. If you selected a Pushpin Map, on the Pushpins page of the wizard, select the properties for the Pushpin set, and then skip to step 8.

  5. On the Data Fields page of the wizard, select the specific data fields you want to display on the map, how you want that data compared, and by what geographic unit you want to show that data.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Format your legend based on the map type you selected:

    For these map types Do this
    Shaded Area, Shaded Circle, Sized Circle, and Multiple Symbol

    Set the data range.

    Pie Chart

    Label the data fields and specify the size of the pie.

    Sized Pie Chart, Column Chart, Series Column Chart
    1. Set the data range.
    2. Label the data fields.
  8. Click Finish to exit the Data Mapping Wizard.
