Troubleshoot mapping data
None of my records were mapped.

The location columns may not have been given the correct headings. You must use one of the headings in the drop-down list at the top of each column for every column containing location information. MapPoint uses these headings to place your records on the map. Make sure that each heading describes the type of geographical information contained in that column.
The correct country has not been specified. For instance, if you are importing or linking to Canadian data, select Canada in the Country/Region list when you choose a valid heading for each location field. If your data contains records from more than one country, select <Multi/Other> in the Country/Region list. If you are mapping data from multiple countries, be sure to include in your source data a column or field containing the country name for each record.
The correct country has been specified, but the column headings are incorrect. If you are mapping data from multiple countries, make sure that you have chosen correct column headings. For instance, if you are mapping data from the United States and Canada, choose the heading State/Province rather than State or Province.
The source data may not be formatted correctly and consistently. It is important that the information in your source data is consistently organized. For example, make sure that all your ZIP Codes or postal codes are in the same column.
You skipped or canceled matching records. If you canceled matching records, you can match them to the map later. If you skipped records, you can later match these records to the map.
I can't update my linked data.
The connection to the server has been lost Check your network connections to ensure that you are still connected to the server or computer where the source data is stored.
The source data is password-protected If the source file is password-protected, you will not be able to update your linked data. Remove the password protection from the file, and try again.
The source data is missing If the source file has been moved, you can specify its new location so that your linked data can be updated. On the Data menu, click Data Set Properties, and then on the General tab, click Change. Specifiy the new location of the source file and click Open.
I can't display data at the level I want to.
Your data was not matched according to the level of detail you want If, for example, your source data consists of street addresses, and you can display it only according to a larger area, your street addresses were not imported or linked to correctly. If this is the case, you must import or link to your data again.
To ensure that your data is mapped according to your chosen level of detail, you must give each column of data containing location information one of the headings supplied in the drop-down list at the top of each column when you choose a valid heading for each location field. For instance, if your street address information is contained in a column called St., you must rename this column by selecting the heading Address1 from the drop-down list.
Not all of my ZIP Codes can be seen on the map.
Most ZIP Codes represent areas that can be clearly seen on the map. However, a small number of ZIP Codes represent points, such as buildings or company headquarters. If your data contains data for this type of ZIP Code, you will not be able to map information for that ZIP Code using a Shaded Area Map. Choose a Shaded Circle, Sized Circle, or Pushpin map instead.

I can't combine my data to display it by a larger area.
If you choose to map data according to a larger area, you cannot then subtotal the data for each record according to that larger area. For instance, if your data consists of street addresses and you choose to place them on the map according to ZIP Code or postal code, you cannot later choose to combine data for each street address and show its total by ZIP or postal code. Instead, map your records according to street address, and later choose to combine the data according to ZIP or postal code.

Certain values show up as -1 and 0 when I import or link data in Microsoft Access.
The Microsoft Access data types Yes/No, True/False and On/Off are imported as numbers in MapPoint. 0 represents the data values No, False and Off. -1 represents the data values Yes, True and On. MapPoint imports and displays the internally stored Visual Basic for Applications Boolean value rather than the formatted text equivalent that is used in Access tables.
I can't import or link my text file.
MapPoint cannot import or link text files that have exclamation points, periods, or apostrophes in the name. For example, the file names my!file.txt, my'file.txt, and my.file.txt cannot be imported or linked. If you have text files with any of these characters in the file name, rename the files without using these characters.
I can't see my data column in the Data Mapping Wizard.
Chart map types (Pie Chart, Sized Pie Chart, Column Chart, Series Column Charts) can only map numeric data. If the data you imported contains currency symbols, MapPoint may interpret it as textual data.
I can't select my Pushpins or charts on the map.
If your data set was created from demographic data, you cannot select the individual symbols or charts on the map. The data tips will display, but you will be unable to show information in a balloon. If your data set was aggregated (added together to map to a larger geography, for example, address data mapped by state), you cannot select individual data map symbols or charts.
My data isn't showing up in balloons.
When data is mapped using one of the chart map types, by default, only location information is displayed in the information balloons. You can select which fields you want to display.
