Full screen navigation

Full screen navigation is a navigation feature that makes getting to your destination more convenient. You can adjust the navigation features by using either keyboard shortcuts or an auto-hiding toolbar that has larger, easy-to-see buttons.

Before you can use full screen navigation:

  • You must install and start a compatible GPS receiver.

  • You must create a route to follow.

  • In the GPS task pane, you must click Start/Stop GPS tracking, and then select the Provide navigation check box.

Caution   Using MapPoint while driving can be distracting, dangerous, or prohibited (depending on location or manner of use). The driver remains responsible for safe travel, for obeying all traffic laws, and for exercising good judgment at all times.

Close and open full screen navigation

To open full screen navigation

  • On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view.

To close full screen navigation

  • On the Full screen navigation toolbar, click Close Gg650240.Exit(en-us,MSDN.10).gif.

Note   Information balloons in classic view will close when switching to Full screen map view. Balloons will reopen when switching back to classic view.

Move and zoom the map view

You can use keyboard shortcuts to move and zoom the map view.

To move the map

  • Press the appropriate arrow key.

Note   The map moves in the direction of the arrow key that is pressed.

To zoom the map view out

  • Press the MINUS SIGN (-).

To zoom the map view in

  • Press the PLUS SIGN (+).

Note   Use the PLUS SIGN (+) key on the number pad and the EQUAL SIGN (=) key on the keyboard.

Turn voice instructions off and on

To turn voice instructions off

  • On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view, and then click Mute Gg650240.Mute(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, or press F7.

To turn voice instructions on

  • On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view, and then click Mute Gg650240.Mute(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, or press F7.

Notes

  • If a speech engine is installed on your computer, voice instructions are on when you use the navigation feature for the first time.

  • When you turn voice instructions off or on, they stay off or on the next time you use the navigation feature.

Repeat voice instructions

On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view, and then click Repeat Gg650240.Repeat(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, or press SPACEBAR.

Hear the next voice instruction

Press SPACEBAR twice.

Recalculate a route from your current location

On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view, and then click Reroute Gg650240.Reroute(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, or press F3.

Switch to night display for easier viewing in the dark

On the Tools menu, click Full screen navigation view, and then click Day/Night Gg650240.Daynite(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, or press F9.

Move the Full Screen Navigation toolbar

Click anywhere on the Full screen navigation toolbar, and then drag the toolbar to the left or right side of the map.

Note   The Full screen navigation toolbar will only dock on the top, left, or right side of the map.
