Schedule stops on your route

  1. On the Route menu, click Route planner.

    – or –

On the Standard toolbar, click Route planner Gg674636.ALLRouteButton(en-us,MSDN.10).jpg.

  2. Create a route, if you haven't done so already.

    How?

  3. In the route list, select the start point, an intermediate stop, or the end point.

  4. Click Schedule stop Gg674636.ALLSchedStopButton(en-us,MSDN.10).gif, and then do the following:

    • To set the duration of time you'd like to spend at the selected stop before continuing to the next stop, select the Stop for check box. In the boxes next to that, select Hrs:Mins or Nights, and then type or select the number of hours and minutes or nights you want to stop.

Note   You can schedule a stop duration for up to 23 hours and 59 minutes or 59 nights.

    • To set the time of day you'd like to arrive at the selected stop or end point, select the Arrive at check box, and then type or select a time.

    • To set the time of day you'd like to leave the selected stop or start point, select the Depart at check box, and then type or select a time.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Repeat steps 3–5 for each stop you want to schedule.

Tip   You don't need to schedule every stop on your route. You can set a schedule for certain stops—such as for an appointment—and then let MapPoint automatically schedule the rest of your route based on the preferences you have set.

  7. Click Get directions.

Note   If you have already gotten directions for your route and the only change you made is to the schedule, you don't need to click Get directions. MapPoint automatically reschedules the stops based on your new preferences.

Notes

  • For the start point, you can set only the departure time.

  • For the end point, you can set only the arrival time.

  • For intermediate stops, you can schedule stop duration, as well as an arrival or departure time.

Tips

  • If you want to set a consistent beginning and ending schedule for a route that lasts several days, you can schedule your average driving day—including when you'd like to include rest stops—and let MapPoint automatically schedule the stops on your route.

  • If your route includes travel by ferry, MapPoint adds the ferry crossing time to the route, assuming immediate departure at the exact time you arrive at the ferry terminal. Check the ferry schedule for actual departure times. Add a stop in your route at the ferry terminal and schedule the amount of time you estimate you will need to wait for the next ferry. Remember to account for possible boarding delays.
