Client Support

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

The following clients are supported for users who are homed on Office Communications Server 2007:

  • Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 only for IM and legacy presence

  • Microsoft Office Communicator 2007

  • Office Live Meeting 2007 client for Web conferencing

  • Conferencing Add-In for Microsoft Outlook 2002, 2003, and 2007

  • Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access (2005 release) only for IM and legacy presence

  • Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access (2007 release)

Windows Messenger 5.1 and Communicator Mobile (2005 release) are not supported by Office Communications Server 2007.

Feature availability to individual users depends on what server roles are deployed, how the administrator has configured user accounts, and what client and/or operating system is running on the user's computer.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Unified Messaging is required to integrate Office Communications Server with the voice and e-mail features of Microsoft Exchange Server.

Office Communicator 2007 Certificates

For both internal and remote clients, the CA certificate chain for the Office Communications Server 2007 deployment must be downloaded and installed to the certificate store of the client computer in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder.

Office Communicator Web Access (2007 Release) Certificates

For both internal and remote clients, the CA certificate chain for the Office Communications Server 2007 deployment must be downloaded and installed to the certificate store of the client computer in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder.

Remote Desktop Support

Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 and Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 support Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix Metaframe only when used for text chats and presence.

Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 is not optimized for use with terminal services. Features and functionality are not supported when used in a remote desktop environment.
