The Cumulative Server Update Installer is now available on the Microsoft Download Center. The installer contains all the currently available Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 updates bundled together in a single package. You can use the installer to seamlessly update server roles with all the required updates. For additional information about installing the package, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 968802, “Updates for Communications Server 2007 R2”.

Note

The Cumulative Server Update Installer does not include the updates for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat, Office Communicator 2007 R2, or the database upgrade (OCS2009-DBUpgrade.msi).

The following procedure describes how to install the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 updates described in the KB article 968802.

Important

After you run the installer, to ensure that you have an updated Office Communications Server environment, you must also install the Office Communications Server back-end database update. Failure to install this update will put your deployment in an unsupported state, and you will have problems with certain Office Communication Server features.

To install updates by using the Cumulative Server Update Installer

  1. Download the Cumulative Server Update Installer.

  2. Click Install Updates to run the Cumulative Server Update Installer from the user interface. You can also run the installer at a command prompt by using the following command: ServerUpdateInstaller.exe [/silent [/forcereboot]] | [/extractall].

    Note

The UI provides a clear indication of which updates are installed when you click Install Updates.

  3. The /silent/forcereboot switch applies all the applicable updates silently and then, if necessary, automatically restarts the server at the end of the installation process.

  4. The /extractall switch extracts the updates from the installer into a subfolder of the folder from which you ran the update named “Extracted”.

  5. If you have not already done so, apply the update for the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 back-end database according to the instructions in Knowledge Base article 979857, “Description of the cumulative update package for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 database: April, 2010”.
