Installing Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 Client Software

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 client software is a small, lightweight program that is optimized for mobility scenarios. The client software can be downloaded with or without a connection to a computer. Office Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 is supported in a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 deployment and requires that the Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access server be deployed. This section provides the information and procedures required to install Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0.

Prerequisites

The following are the prerequisites for installing Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0:

  • Communicator Web Access and other server components. Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 takes advantage of the features in the Office Communicator Web Access server, so you must deploy Communicator Web Access if you want to deploy Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0. You must also install the other server components. For details about the required server components, see Communicator Web Access Support in the Planning and Architecture documentation.

  • Communicator Mobile component. The Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile component is required for server-side support of Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0. When you install the Communicator Web Access server, the Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 component is automatically installed. For details, see Deploying the Communicator Mobile Component.

  • Mobile phones. Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 can be installed on the following mobile phones:

    • Nokia N8

    • Nokia E7

    Each of the mobile phones must be data-connection-enabled (General Packet Radio Source [GPRS], Edge, or 3G). We also recommend having a subscription to an unlimited data plan for the phone because the client and server will be exchanging messages even when they are in an idle state.

Installing Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0

To install Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0, download it from the URL provided by your support team. You can either download it directly onto your phone, or you can download it to your computer and then copy it to the phone. Both installation methods work for new installations and also for upgrades.

Only a selected set of mobile phone models are supported for Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0. For a complete list of supported models, see the previous section. If a phone model is not listed, Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0 is currently not supported for that phone.

To install directly to the phone

  1. From your phone, click the Menu key, and then click Ovi Store.

  2. Locate Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0, and then click Download to install it on your phone.

To install from the computer

  1. From your computer, go to Ovi.com, and sign in to your account. If you do not have an account, create one first.

  2. At Ovi.com, click the Ovi Store icon, locate Communicator Mobile for Nokia 2.0, and then click Send to mobile.

  3. From your phone, open the link sent from the Ovi Store, and follow the instructions to install the program.
