The following tables list the various SmartArt style labels and indicate when they should be used.

Nodes

Style label

Description

Example

  • node1

  • node2

  • node3

  • node4

  • node0

Indicates shapes in the diagram that map to semantic nodes. node1 is the default style label for nodes at Level 1 in the data model. node2 through node4 should be used for nodes at lower levels in the hierarchy. node0 does not change in styles and colors by using spans, so it is generally used as the top shape in hierarchies to ensure consistency across branches. It is also used as the center shape in radial graphics to ensure that the shapes around the center use the correct colors in color spans.

node style label

alignNode1

Indicates primary shapes in the diagram that need to align exactly with secondary shapes. alignNode1 is similar to node1, but alignNode1 uses an outline that is the same color as the fill.

alignNode style label

vennNode1

Indicates primary shapes in the diagram where shapes overlap. The style uses transparent fill.

vennNode style label

lnNode1

Indicates primary shapes in the diagram that require a visible line around them in two-dimensional styles. For example, the circles in the Basic Target template use lnNode1.

lnNode style label

Assistants

Style label

Description

Example

  • asst0

  • asst1

  • asst2

  • asst3

  • asst4

Indicates shapes that map to semantic elements in which the node type is Assistant; these are used in organization charts only. The numbers in the style labels associate the assistant style labels with the corresponding level in the semantic data model. However, organization charts often use asst1 for all assistant shapes to promote consistency across the graphic.

Accent Shapes

Style label

Description

Example

  • fgAcc0

  • fgAcc1

  • fgAcc2

  • fgAcc3

  • fgAcc4

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to display in front of the node shapes. The numbers in the style labels associate the accent shapes with the corresponding level in the semantic data model and are used in hierarchical diagrams to ensure that the accent shape colors match the primary shape colors.

fgAcc style label

conFgAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed immediately behind the node shapes.

conFgAcc style label

bgAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed behind the node shapes.

bgAcc style label

alignAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed at the same level as the node shapes. These shapes have a small amount of transparency.

alignAcc style label

trAlignAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed at the same level as the node shapes and where the fill color needs to be mostly transparent.

trAlignAcc style label

solidAlignAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed at the same level as the node shapes and that need to have a solid fill.

solidAlignAcc style label

solidFgAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed in front of the node shapes and that need to have a solid fill.

solidFgAcc style label

solidBgAcc1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed behind the node shapes and that need to have a solid fill.

solidBgAcc style label

alignAccFollowNode1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed at the same level as the node shapes and that have the same color as nodes in a less saturated form.

alignAccFollowNode style label

fgAccFollowNode1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed in front of the node shapes and that have the same color as nodes in a less saturated form.

fgAccFollowNode style label

bgAccFollowNode1

Indicates secondary shapes, such as those to contain child text, that need to be displayed behind the node shapes and that have the same color as nodes in a less saturated form.

bgAccFollowNode style label

Image Placeholders

Style label

Description

Example

fgImgPlace1

Indicates shapes designed to contain an image in which the shape needs to be in the foreground layer.

fgImgPlace style label

alignImgPlace1

Indicates shapes designed to contain an image.

alignImgPlace style label

bgImgPlace1

Indicates shapes designed to contain an image in which the shape needs to be in the background layer.

bgImgPlace style label

Sibling Transitions

Style label

Description

Example

  • sibTrans2D1

  • fgSibTrans2D1

  • bgSibTrans2D1

Indicates sibling transition nodes that use two-dimensional connectors or shapes. sibTrans2D1 places the shape in the center plane in three-dimensional scenes. fgSibTrans2D1 places the shape in the foreground plane in 3-D scenes. bgSibTrans2D1 places the shape in the background plane in 3-D scenes.

sibTrans2D style label

sibTrans1D1

Indicates sibling transition nodes that use one-dimensional connectors.

sibTrans1D style label

callout

Indicates any transitions that must be placed above the nodes.

callout style label

Parent/Child Transitions

Style label

Description

Example

  • parChTrans2D1

  • parChTrans2D2

  • parChTrans2D3

  • parChTrans2D4

Indicates parent/child transition nodes that use two-dimensional connectors or shapes. The numbers in the style label match the connector shape to the corresponding level in the semantic data model. They are used in hierarchy graphics to match the connector color to the preceding or following primary shape color.

parChTrans2D style label
  • parChTrans1D1

  • parChTrans1D2

  • parChTrans1D3

  • parChTrans1D4

Indicates parent/child transition nodes that use one-dimensional connectors. The numbers in the style label match the connector shape to the corresponding level in the semantic data model. They are used in hierarchy graphics to match the connector color to the preceding or following primary shape color.

parChTrans1D style label

Background Shapes

Style label

Description

Example

bgShp

Background shapes in a diagram generally do not map to semantic nodes.

bgShp style label

dkBgShp

Indicates background shapes in a diagram that need to have a dark fill. These shapes generally do not map to semantic nodes.

dkBgShp style label

trBgShp

Indicates background shapes in a diagram that need to have a transparent fill. These shapes generally do not map to semantic nodes. Notice the faint blue arrow in the example to the right and how it shows the fill pattern underneath it.

trBgShp style label

Foreground Shapes

Style label

Description

Example

fgShp

Foreground shapes in a diagram generally do not map to semantic nodes.

fgShp style label

Text-Only Shapes

Style label

Description

Example

revTx

Indicates text that does not have visible shape geometry and that always needs to stand out from the underlying background, shapes, and images.
