This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

This section addresses issues relating to setting up and managing the server. For additional information, refer to the Readme files.

For information about specific error messages, see Error Messages.

Installing SMTP Services

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Services are required if you plan to take advantage of mail services in your team solution. If you receive an error when installing the Access Workflow Designer server components asking for SMTP Services, you must install the SMTP Services. The SMTP Services are part of the Windows NT Option Pack.

To install SMTP Services

  1. Open the Windows NT Option Pack Setup program.

  2. If the Windows NT Option Pack is already installed on your computer, select Add/Remove to add the new component.

  3. In the Components list, select Internet Information Server (IIS), and then click Show Subcomponents.

  4. Select the SMTP Service option, and click OK.

  5. Click Next and continue with the installation wizard.

Adding the Issue Tracking template to modSystem database

If you receive an error when installing the Access Workflow Designer Server components stating that setup was unable to add the template to the modSystem database, you can add the template to the database manually using the Team Solutions Manager.

To add a template to the modSystem database manually

  1. In the Team Solutions Manager, enter a server name, and click Refresh.

  2. Select the Templates tab.

  3. If the desired template is not listed, select Import from File.

  4. Browse to the location of the template (*.tpl file). The default installation location is:

    ..\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Microsoft Office Developer\System\issuestemplate.tpl

Uninstalling Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE)

If you have problems uninstalling MSDE, make sure MSDE services are stopped before attempting to uninstall.

To uninstall MSDE

  1. Right-click the MSDE symbol on the Windows Task Bar, and choose Stop.

  2. Right-click the MSDE symbol again, and then choose Exit.

  3. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then choose Control Panel.

  4. Select the Add/Remove Programs option, and choose to uninstall MSDE.

Changing a SQL Server Password

During installation of the Access Workflow Designer server components, you are asked for a user name and password. The user ID you specify is used to set up the identity of an Access Workflow Designer system database called MODTBAD. If you change the password for that user ID, it must be changed for the SQL Services as well as MODTBAD.

For information about changing passwords in SQL Server, see SQL Server Books Online. For more information about MODTBAD and SQL Server login passwords, see Changing SQL Server Administrator Login.

To change the user ID for MODTBAD

  1. Run DCOMCNFG on the server.

  2. In the Applications property page, click MODTBAD.

  3. Click Properties.

  4. On the Identity tab, change and confirm the password for the user.
