Re-creating an Offline Publication

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

Anytime you make schema changes that require an offline publication to be updated, you must re-create the publication using the Re-create SQL Publication option. The old publication is dropped automatically, and an updated copy is created.

If a user has a publication offline while you are making changes to its online counterpart, when that user returns online, a notification message is displayed indicating the publication has changed. Then, the user must synchronize the team solution to update the publication.

Note   If the user has made changes to rows that have been removed from the publication, the user receives a message indicating that synchronization has failed for those rows. In this situation, the user will not be able to update the online database with changes made to those rows.

To re-create an offline publication

  1. Open your solution in the Access Workflow Designer. For details, see Opening your Solution in the Access Workflow Designer.

  2. In the Object List, expand Offline Publications by clicking the plus (+) sign.

  3. Select an offline publication to display the Offline Publication panes.

  4. Click Re-create SQL Publication to save and update the publication.

Note   You can choose a default approach to re-creating publications. In the Access Workflow Designer, from the Tools menu, select Options. You can specify whether you want publications automatically created whenever you save changes. Creating publications may take a few minutes depending on the size of your publication.
