Restrictions to Modifying SharePoint Portal Server Dashboard Sites

Only users who have coordinator privileges at the workspace level or portal folder can modify the SharePoint Portal Server dashboard settings. If you have these privileges, the dashboard displays the Content, Layout, and Settings links.

Important

SharePoint Portal Server dashboards and Web Parts can operate only when they are stored inside the workspace where they were created. Do not attempt to copy and run them outside of the workspace, and do not attempt to move them within the workspace. The parts of the SharePoint Portal Server dashboard site rely on information about the workspace where they operate. They do not operate properly if that information is not available.

Where the Dashboards and Web Parts Are Stored

SharePoint Portal Server dashboards and Web Parts are stored in the Portal hidden folder inside the top-level workspace. The Portal directory contains a folder for each dashboard inside the Dashboard Folder, and each folder contains empty Microsoft Visual Basic® Scripting Edition (VBScript) .vbs files for each Web Part on that dashboard. The actual VBScript code inside the Web Part is stored as a property of the file — not within the file itself.

Other VBScript code used by SharePoint Portal Server Web Parts, the Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) style sheets, and other associated files are stored in the resources folder. Do not change the files in this directory. Use the Content page and other configuration pages to modify the dashboards and Web Parts.
