Error Accessing Exchange Server Information

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. For more information about the tool or to download the latest versions, see "Microsoft Exchange Analyzers" at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=34707.]

The Microsoft Exchange Best Practices Analyzer contacts the Active Directory directory service to read configuration information about the Exchange installation. If the tool is unable to connect to Active Directory, the following message is generated:

The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool is having a problem accessing the Active Directory® directory service configuration information for the Exchange server.

Note

The current version of the Best Practices Analyzer does not support Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. When you use the current version of the Best Practices Analyzer to scan a computer that is running Exchange 2010, you are prompted to run the Best Practices Analyzer from the Exchange 2010 Management Console. For more information, see Exchange 2010 does not support the Exchange 2007 Best Practices Analyzer.

To correct this error:

  • Verify that your current logon account has appropriate permissions for reading Exchange server configuration information in Active Directory.

  • Verify that you have network connectivity to an Active Directory domain controller.

  • Enter explicit account credentials into the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer Tool for accessing Active Directory.

  • Specify an Active Directory domain controller in the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer.

  • Ensure that the Exchange server you specified exists and that you typed the server name correctly.

  • If the server is running Exchange Server 2010, run the Best Practices Analyzer from the Toolbox node in the Exchange 2010 Management Console.
