Overview of testing and deploying a dashboard by using Dashboard Designer

Applies to: SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise

To test and preview a dashboard in PerformancePoint Services in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you must edit the deployment properties to direct the dashboard to the location of your choice.

In Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, there is an option to preview a dashboard before you deploy it to the SharePoint production environment. In PerformancePoint Services, the preview option is not available. To test and preview a dashboard before publishing to a production environment, follow these steps to edit the location of where the dashboard is deployed.

Steps to deploy a dashboard to a test environment

For instruction on how to create PerformancePoint Services dashboards, see Plan, design, and implement a PerformancePoint dashboard. When you are ready to deploy a dashboard, follow these steps. The dashboards are .aspx pages. Standard contributor-level permissions in SharePoint Server are not enough to successfully create ASPX pages. Your account must have at least Design-level permissions on the SharePoint Server site that has the account that is deploying the dashboard.

To deploy a dashboard to a test environment

  1. Open PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer. Create and assemble a dashboard.

  2. In the center pane, click the Properties tab.

  3. In the Name box, type the name of your dashboard.

  4. In the Deployment Properties section, in the Document Library box, click Browse. Select Test Dashboards. The default path and document folder appear in the Document Library box.

You cannot manually edit this field. You must select a document folder from the Browse menu to designate a document folder.

  5. On the left-hand side of the window in the Workspace Browser pane, highlight and right-click the name of the dashboard that you want to deploy. Click Select Deploy to SharePoint.

  6. Review your deployed dashboard. Edit and revise Dashboard Designer as necessary.

  7. When you have completed your dashboard, click the Properties tab. In the Deployment Properties section, click Browse. Change the document folder to the name of your production dashboard location.

  8. Right-click the name of the dashboard you want to deploy to production. Click Select Deploy to SharePoint.
