You can use the Server Storage tab on the Windows® Home Server Console to view, add, repair, and remove hard drives.
On the Server Storage tab, you can see the status of your server storage, and you can repair any hard drives that show an Unhealthy status. You can also see a graphical representation of the server storage space that is being used.
The following information is displayed for each hard drive on Windows Home Server:
Displays the name of the hard drive. The hard drive name is determined by the manufacturer.
Displays the capacity of the hard drive.
Indicates if the hard drive is internal or external.
Indicates the health and status of the hard drive.
When you add a hard drive to your server storage by using the Server Storage tab on the console, the hard drive is moved from the Non Storage Hard Drives group to the Storage Hard Drives group. The available space of the hard drive is added to the total of your server storage. You no longer need to worry about the individual hard drives and whether they are filling up. Windows Home Server automatically manages the server storage group and determines where to locate files and folders within the group.
There may be situations where you do not want to add a hard drive to your server storage. For example, you may have a Windows Home Server Add-in that requires access to a separate hard drive. In this case, simply connect the hard drive, but don't add it to server storage. The hard drive appears in the Non Storage Hard Drives list on the Server Storage tab.
