How DPM 2007 Works

Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2007

DPM 2007 enables an organization to combine the speed, convenience, and reliability of disk for short-term backup—where most recovery requests are concentrated—with the security and longevity of tape for long-term archiving. This approach helps to alleviate the problems that are associated with tape backup solutions, while still providing long-term, off-site archives. By using DPM, you can protect file and application data on disk, on tape, or both.

There are a few changes between DPM 2006 and DPM 2007 for file protection and synchronization. Disk-based application data protection and tape-based file and application data protection are both new in DPM 2007. The recovery process is expanded to include new data types and tape recovery. The decisions you must make for a protection policy have changed between DPM 2006 and DPM 2007.
