Configuration Manager Collection Classes

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Configuration Manager 2007 collections group resources according to criteria that you define, which enables you to create an organized structure that logically represents the kinds of tasks you want to perform. For example, you can create collections for various client and resource groups such as Finance and Human Resources, Atlanta and Paris, or processor types such as Pentiums.

Collections serve as targets for performing Configuration Manager operations on multiple resources at one time, such as software distribution.

You use SMS_Collection Server WMI Class to define the attributes of a collection, such as the membership rules and the refresh schedule. The MemberClassName property contains the system-generated class name that contains the members of the collection.
