Rotate objects

You can rotate selected objects by using either the Action Bar or the resize and rotation handles. You can also rotate a whole document.

Rotating a selected object using rotation handles

To rotate an object

  1. Select an object (or a group of objects or anchor points).

  2. Position your pointer near but outside one of the corner handles. The handle changes to a rotation handle.

  3. Drag the handle around the object to rotate it.

You will have more control over the angle by positioning the pointer farther from the center of transformation when you drag. Note that you can also drag the point of transformation (which by default is in the center of the bounding box) to a different location on your page. When you do this, the rotation occurs around that coordinate.

To constrain the rotation angle to 45- or 90-degree increments, hold down the SHIFT key when you drag.

To change the constraint angles

  1. On the Edit menu, point to Options, and then click Units and Grids.

  2. On the Units and Grids panel, under Arrangement, in the Rotation steps field, change the number. Drag the pointer up or to the right to increase the number or drag it down or to the left to decrease the number. Click the field to type a numeric value.

Tip

You can rotate and create a duplicate of a selection at the same time by holding down ALT when you drag a handle.

Rotating objects using the Action Bar

To use the Action Bar to rotate one or more selected objects

  1. On the left side of the Action Bar, click the registration point Cc294905.be82a820-b5c5-486c-a15a-092947c5fa3e(en-us,Expression.10).png icon to indicate which part of the selected object you want to stay stationary during rotation. For example, if you want the upper-right corner of an object to remain in position when the rest of the object rotates, click the upper-right corner of the registration point icon.

  2. Adjust the Rotation Angle Cc294905.6b8b3aa9-9eff-4e55-a221-5b55d6d79930(en-us,Expression.10).png value. Drag the pointer up or to the right to increase the number or drag it down or to the left to decrease the number. Click the field to type a numeric value.

Rotating a document

To rotate a document

  • On the File menu, point to Rotate Document, and then click one of the following options:

    • Rotate 180°

    • Rotate 90° Clockwise

    • Rotate 90° Counter Clockwise

When you rotate your document by 90 degrees, the document frame also rotates. As a result, a portrait page becomes landscape, and vice versa.
