Create a movie using Windows Movie Maker (Windows Vista only)

In Windows Vista, the Export Slide Show to Movie Maker feature exports your catalog to Windows Movie Maker, where you can add more customization to your final movie. Following the export, your files open in Windows Movie Maker already arranged either on the storyboard or the timeline, depending on which view Windows Movie Maker last displayed. The files appear with default transitions already applied, and start and end titles already created. From there, you can customize the movie any way you like, such as by substituting other transitions, adding other video or still image files, adding effects, adding an audio track, or using any one of the other many features available in Windows Movie Maker. After editing your project, you can output it as a video file that you can then share, add to other projects, or that you can encode using Microsoft Expression Encoder and then distribute over the web as part of a rich Silverlight package.

To export a slide show to Windows Movie Maker (Windows Vista only)

  1. In Thumbnail or List view, decide which files you want to appear in the movie. By default, Expression Media adds every displayed catalog image into the movie. If you want only a specific set of images in the movie, select the images that you want and then, on the Find menu, click Show Selected.

  2. On the Make menu, click Export Slide Show to Movie Maker. Expression Media assembles the images, opens Windows Movie Maker, and positions the files in the storyboard or timeline.

  3. Click Play to preview the project with the default transitions and titles.

  4. Continue editing the project, or output it to a movie file. For information about how to use Windows Movie Maker, see Windows Movie Maker Help.
