Set the display properties of frames

You can change the way a frame looks by changing its borders, the spacing between frames, and the margins within a frame. You can also make frames invisible so that the pages don't appear to be in a frame.

You can choose to show or hide scroll bars when the page displaying in a frame is larger than the frame itself, and you can choose to lock a frame so that a user can't resize it in the browser.

To show or hide borders around frames

  1. Right-click anywhere in the frames page, and then click Frame Properties.

  2. Under Options, click Frames Page.

  3. Select or clear the Show borders check box.

    Note

When you choose to show or hide borders, this setting applies to all the frames on your frames page.

To set the spacing between frames

  1. Right-click anywhere in the frames page, and then click Frame Properties.

  2. Under Options, click Frames Page.

  3. Type the amount of spacing, in pixels, in the Frame spacing box. The default for most web browsers is two pixels.

    Note

If the Show borders check box is selected, the width of the borders is determined by the setting in the Frame Spacing box.

To adjust the margins of a frame

  1. Right-click in the frame, and then click Frame Properties.

  2. Under Margins, adjust the Width and Height settings.

    Note

If the page shown in the frame also has margins, the margin size you set for the frame itself is added to the margin size of the existing page. For example, if you are using a page in a frame that was created previously and that had a margin set at three, and you set your frame margins to two, your total frame margin is now five.

To create invisible frames

  1. Right-click in the frame, and then click Frames Properties.

  2. Under Options, click Frames Page.

  3. Clear the Show borders check box.

  4. Set Frame spacing to zero (0).

Your page no longer appears to have frames.

To show or hide frames scroll bars

  1. Right-click in the frame, and then click Frame Properties.

  2. Under Options, in the Show scrollbars list, click If Needed, Never, or Always.

    Note

If the frame is taller than it is wide, the scroll bars will scroll up and down. If the frame is wider than it is tall, the scroll bars will scroll left and right.

To lock a frame

  1. Right-click in the frame, and then click Frame Properties.

  2. Under Options, clear the Resizable in browser check box.

Site visitors cannot resize your frames when viewing your web page in a browser.
