Set text spacing

The Font dialog box enables you to increase or decrease the amount of space that appears between characters. The Paragraph dialog box enables you to increase or decrease the amount of space that appears above and below paragraphs, between words, and between lines in a paragraph.

To set the spacing between characters

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, select the text that you want to format.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font.

  3. In the Font dialog box, click the Character Spacing tab.

  4. In the Spacing box, click the arrow and do one of the following:

    • To increase the space between characters, select Expanded.

    • To decrease the space between characters, select Condensed.

  5. In the By box, enter a number, in points, to specify how much you want to increase or decrease the space between characters.

  6. Click OK.

To set the spacing between words, lines, or paragraphs

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, select one or more paragraphs, or to format a single paragraph, put your cursor in the paragraph.

  2. On the Format menu, click Paragraph.

  3. In the Paragraph dialog box, under Spacing, do one or more of the following.

    • To set the spacing that you want above paragraphs, in the Before box, enter a value in pixels.

    • To set the spacing that you want below paragraphs, in the After box, enter a value in pixels.

    • To set the spacing that you want between words, in the Word box, enter a value in pixels.

    • To set the spacing that you want between lines, in the Line spacing box, click the arrow, and then select an option.

  4. Click OK.
