Modify Data View properties
When you create a Data View in Microsoft Expression Web, you can modify the Data View properties so that the Data View appears in the browser the way that you want it to.
Before you can modify the Data View properties, you need to add a Data View to the page. For more information, see Add a Data view.
To add a header, a column summary row, a footer, or custom text to a Data View
In Design view, right-click Data View, and then click Show Common Control Tasks. In the Common Data View Tasks list, click Data View Properties.
Tip
You can also click the Data View in Design view, click the arrow in the upper-right corner to show the Common Data View Tasks list, and then click Data View Properties. Click the arrow again to hide the list.
On the General tab in the Data View Properties dialog box, do one or more of the following:

Insert a table header row above the Data View.
Show column summary row
Show a column summary row below the Data View.
Show view footer
Show a table footer row below the Data View.
Note:If the Data View includes a summary row, the footer row appears below the summary row.Display text if no matching items are found
Show custom text if the Data View is empty.
To modify the layout of a Data View
In Design view, right-click Data View, and then click Show Common Control Tasks. In the Common Data View Tasks list, click Data View Properties.
Tip
You can also click the Data View in Design view, click the arrow in the upper-right corner to show the Common Data View Tasks list, and then click Data View Properties. Click the arrow again to hide the list.
Under HTML view styles on the Layout tab in the Data View Properties dialog box, select the style that you want.

Click a style to read a brief description of it.

You can link to a custom XSL file by using the XSLT Source tab.
Modify the XSLT source
In Design view, right-click Data View, and then click Show Common Control Tasks. In the Common Data View Tasks list, click Data View Properties.

You can also click the Data View in Design view, click the arrow in the upper-right corner to show the Common Data View Tasks list, and then click Data View Properties. Click the arrow again to hide the list.
Under Choose the XSLT source file, click Browse to locate the XSLT file that you want. You can also modify the method used to process the XSLT.
To modify the default XSLT processors
In Design view, right-click Data View, and then click Show Common Control Tasks. In the Common Data View Tasks list, click Data View Properties.

Under XSLT Processors, click the method that you want.
