How to: Import/Export Security Configurations (Devices)

Use this procedure to import security configurations to and export security configurations from Windows Mobile devices and emulators.

Note

The dialog boxes and menu commands you see might differ from those described in Help depending on your active settings or edition. To change your settings, choose Import and Export Settings on the Tools menu. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.

To import a security configuration from an XML file

  1. On the Tools menu, click Connect to Device.

  2. Click a device in the Devices list and then click Connect.

  3. Wait for the device to connect.

  4. On the Tools menu, click Device Security Manager to start the Device Security Manager.

  5. In the left pane, click the target device in the Connected Devices list, and then click Import Configuration.

  6. In the Open dialog box, find the XML file containing the Security Configuration you want to import.

  7. Click Open.

    The imported settings appear in settings near the bottom of the screen.

  8. Click Deploy to Device to provide the imported settings to the selected device.

To export a security configuration to XML file

  1. On the Tools menu, click Connect to Device.

  2. Click a device in the Devices list and then click Connect.

  3. Wait for the device to connect.

  4. On the Tools menu, click Device Security Manager to start the Device Security Manager.

  5. In the left pane, click the device to export from the Connected Devices list and then click Export Configuration.

  6. In the File name box, type a name for the exported XML file, find a location for the file, and then click Save.
