How to: Refresh Team Explorer

Nodes in Team Explorer are not updated automatically as changes occur on the Team Foundation Server. You should update nodes periodically to avoid potential errors. For example, if you are about to move or delete files in the Documents node, you should refresh the Documents node to be sure that the node is up to date. Otherwise you could delete or move a file that was already deleted which would return an error message.

Team Explorer supports three levels of refresh. You can refresh an individual plug-in node, an individual team project, or all team projects in Team Explorer:

  • If you want to see changes that were made to one plug-in node, you can update an individual node.

  • If you want to see changes that were made to one team project, you can refresh an individual team project.

  • If you want to see changes that were made to more than one team project, you can refresh all the nodes and projects.

Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator or your team project administrator to make sure that your user account has the permissions described in the following section.

Required Permissions

To refresh Team Explorer you must be a member of the Team Foundation Valid Users security group. If the necessary security permissions are set explicitly, you must have the View server-level information permission set to Allow and the View project-level information permission on all open team project set to Allow.
