Shared Dimensions

Dimensions allow the measures in the cube to be summarized according to various categories. For example, in the question: "How many priority one bugs were closed by a specific team member in November?" four dimensions are used: Priority, Work Item Type, State, and Time. A core set of dimensions is shared across the various cube perspectives that comprise the Team System warehouse. These dimensions enable metrics from the various Team System components to be analyzed using common classifications.

Area

The Area hierarchy is a parent-child dimension, allowing the measures to be summarized or filtered according to their location in the Area hierarchy.

The Iteration dimension contains a single hierarchy which correlates the measures in the cube according to the iteration classification with which they are associated. The Iteration hierarchy is a parent-child dimension, allowing the measures to be summarized or filtered according to their location in the Iteration hierarchy.

The Date dimension is used in many facts in many different ways throughout the Team System cube. The date dimension allows work items, builds, tests, and version control changes to be summarized by date. The Date attribute contains the specific day on which an action occurred. All information in the data warehouse is tracked as it appeared at the end of each day.

Note

The dates in the date dimension are stored in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and are not adjusted for your time zone.

Date

Year Month Day

The Date hierarchy with the Year Month Day attribute enables measures to be aggregated by year, month, and the day of the month.
