Supported Versions and Configurations

You can use the Best Practices Analyzer tool for Team Foundation Server to scan servers that support either Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010  or Team Foundation Server 2010 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) with the following software configurations:

  • Operating Systems:

    • Windows Server 2003 (Datacenter Edition, Enterprise Edition, or Standard Edition) with Service Pack 2 (SP2)

    • Windows Server 2003 R2 (Datacenter Edition, Enterprise Edition, or Standard Edition)

    • Windows Server 2003 R2 (Datacenter Edition, Enterprise Edition, or Standard Edition) with SP2

    • Windows Server 2008 

  • SQL Server 2008, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition

    • SQL Server Analysis Services

    • SQL Server Reporting Services

  • SharePoint Products:

    • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

    • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

    • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010

  • Team Foundation Build Service for Team Foundation Server 2010

  • Visual Studio 2010 Lab Management

Note

You can scan a server that has a pre-released version of Team Foundation Server installed, but invalid or incorrect errors and warnings might appear.

Analyzing Single-Server and Multi-Server Deployments

You can use the tool to perform a health check on either a single-server or multi-server deployment.

Running a Health Check

When you perform a health check, the tool identifies which servers host which components and prerequisites, and then it analyzes each of those servers against the appropriate set of rules.
