How to: Create a Copy of Shared Steps

If you have to create shared steps that resemble existing shared steps, you can create a copy of the existing shared steps using Microsoft Test Manager as shown in the following illustration. You can change any of the fields in the copied shared steps, as needed.

Create a Copy of Shared Steps

Requirements

  • Visual Studio Ultimate, Visual Studio Premium, Visual Studio Test Professional

To make a copy of existing shared steps

  1. Open Microsoft Test Manager.

    Note

    To display the Microsoft Test Manager window, choose Start, and then choose All Programs. Point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and then choose Microsoft Test Manager.

  2. To open the Shared Steps Manager, choose the down-arrow on the center group switcher, choose Testing Center.

  3. On the center group menu bar, choose Organize and then choose Shared Steps Manager.

    The Shared Steps Manager pane is displayed.

  4. To make a copy of shared steps, select the existing shared steps in the list and then choose Create copy.

    A new shared steps is created and displayed. The new shared steps are identical to the original shared steps.

  5. Update the fields that you want to change for this copied shared steps.

    Note

    You might want to change the title, the owner, and the test steps.

  6. To save these test steps, choose Save and Close in the toolbar.

    Note

    The new test steps are linked to the original test steps. To see this link, choose Links.
